The Bandits have announced that
their team uniforms will change for the 2006 season, which marks their
second uniform change in the past 3 years. In a move sure to
resonate with fans, the Bandits have adopted the Nevada Silver Mining
Commemorative Heritage Uniforms as their new Home uniform, while
redesigning the Away uniform in its entirety. Home jerseys are
primarily black, with silver and maroon trim, and silver pants; road
(away) jerseys are white with silver and maroon trim, and silver pants.
Socks for Home uniforms are black, while socks for the Away uniforms are
Maroon ("Bandit Red"). Jerseys will feature the
interlocking "LV" logo made popular in the 2004 season, with a
gold
center fill and black outline. Jersey numbers are
center-filled with fading silver and Bandit Red outlines for home jerseys, and
center-filled with fading gold and black outlines for away jerseys.
TV numbers will remain on players' jersey shoulders.
Helmets also
underwent major changes, with a new silver shell and Bandit Red facemask
being the biggest changes. "Black helmets were intimidating and
played a major role in the history of the team, but here in the desert
summers, the players were really complaining about the increased heat
trapped in the black helmets," GM Patricia Willis said. "So we
listened to them and their most popular choice for a helmet color was
silver, which not only is much cooler in the summertime but also
reflects an important part of the local area's heritage (Nevada being
nick-named as the "Silver State")." Blackout kits are also being
used, including chinstraps.
The Bandits will still be one of the most recognizable teams in the SFL
with these new jerseys."
The new uniforms were modeled for the media by retired Bandit and fan favorite Hunkie Cooper,
and the Bandits have honored his years of dedication to the team by using his name and number on
the official jersey templates, available on the team's website.
The targeted release date for fan memorabilia is
by the end of the year, so fans can start wearing their new team gear to
2006 games. "Our hottest-selling items are still the Silver Mining
Heritage jerseys and shirts," Willis says. "We will be releasing
slightly revised Alternate uniforms shortly, so fans can keep buying
their favorite team clothing. In fact, the alternate jerseys and
shirts are so popular that we are considering adding in a true
"throwback" uniform, to the original Sacramento Bandits design. We
still have approval on file from the original designer, so there
shouldn't be a licensing problem. This would be a real tip of our
hats to our original fans, and allow them to break out their original
Bandits fan gear with pride."
