The Bandits are
proud to announce the signing of LB Sheldon Durham, an undrafted rookie
from Middle Tennessee State. Durham is expected to back up
starting OLB Marc Stockbauer on the weak side, and will retain his
college number (#47) as a
Bandit.

Middle Tennessee State senior
linebacker Sheldon Durham led the team with 97 tackles, seven tackles
for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
He had one of his best games last weekend, 12 tackles and two sacks, in
the season finale against Utah State. In fact, the Columbia, South
Carolina native earned second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors for
his efforts this past year.
Durham has experience at every linebacker position, since the Blue
Raiders use a 3-3 stack defensive scheme. He moved inside last year
against Ole Miss, responding with a season-high six tackles. His next
best effort came versus LSU, where he had five tackles and one tackle
for loss. “When one talks about the Blue Raider defense, they talk about
steady progress and hard-nosed play. No one exemplified that evolution
more than senior linebacker Sheldon Durham, stated Coach Andy McCollum.”

Middle Tennessee State senior #47 LB Sheldon Durham led the Blue Raiders
with 97 tackles, including a 12-tackle, two sack performance in the
season finale against Utah State.

He was recruited
out of Gulf Coast CC, where he was an all-state selection, led the team
with 75 tackles and was rated as one of the Top-100 JC players in the
country by most recruiting companies. “When you talk about an ideal
linebacker, you can talk about Sheldon Durham", according to McCollum,
“He’s 6-2, 239 pounds, and he has become a physical player now. Late
last season, his play picked up, and the off-season has yielded a new
player."

#47 LB Sheldon Durham averages 4.7 in the 40, does 18-20 reps of 225
lbs. and has an impressive 38" vertical
|
“It doesn’t matter what kind
of defensive scheme a team plays, I just want to be able to play my
game... and help my team win", explains Durham. He is a very active
defender with the footwork to stay on the field for all three downs.
Solid wrap up tackler, hits with authority and plays with the necessary
intensity to contribute on special teams, as a rookie.
The 6-foot-2, 239-pound Durham averages 4.70 in the 40, does 18-20 reps
of 225 lbs. and has an impressive 38" vertical. He has worked hard to
distinguish himself as a potential all-conference performer and a pro
prospect. “He’s changed his body and he’s changed his play,” McCollum
said. “Now he should certainly have a chance to play for a lot longer,
well past Middle Tennessee State.” |
